Anyone remember an old post from me about corrupt/missing vendor and device ID on Winbond W29EE011 and SST 29EE010 Flash ROMs? Technical support at SST unable to help.
Today, I tried UniFlash on Gemlight GMB-P57IPS-V1 board (= DTK PAM-0057 E1) with W29EE011 Flash ROM. UniFlash detected it correctly for the first time, but then nothing. BIOS showed Unknown Flash Type. I looked through the code to find what caused this - it was the reset routine for various chips - writing FFs two times to the first byte of the chip (to reset Intel chips). When executed in ID mode for some Winbond W29EE011 chips (maybe also some other and most probably SST too), it erases both vendor and device ID bytes to FF.
The reset routine will be fixed in UniFlash v1.28 and there will be a feature called repair which will restore the IDs - yes, they can be changed! I even successfuly changed the IDs on Winbond W29EE011 chip so the chip detected as SST 29EE010 then Exclamation

Nice, have two dead SSTs here, will try (+report) as soon 1.28 is out.
