She have an comparative problem like klaufi.

She have an Samsumg HD with 80 GB (SV0802N) and the following PC Data:

BIOS Date: 01/08/98
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 01/08/98-i440LX-W977-ATC-6130C-00
OEM Sign-On: ATC-6130 BIOS VER:1.0 03
Chipset: Intel 440EX/LX rev 3

OS: Microsoft Windows 98 SE Version: 4.10.2222 A

she ask for the same file like klaufi (or newer)

As I had said I have a new HD 80GB but my bios does not like it somehow.
Here details about my bios and motherboard

Award flashprog might complain due to a sligthly changed Bios-ID - Ignore this or use Uniflash

There is only one more thing and it is that eventhough my HD is 80GB windows 98Se only shows 74,5 GB
Could somebody give any tip ?

1MegaByte = 1024KiloByte

HDD manufacturer count this way :
1MB = 1000KB

So a HDD manufacturer reached 80GB and in the real computer world it's about 3-5GB less than 80GB

Then comes the OS and needs some MB/GB,too

To give you an idea:

my 80GB western digital shows up as 74.53GB in windows
my 80GB Maxtor shows up as 76.33GB in windows

this is with XP. Usually you'll loose some 5 to 7% compared to the manufacturer rated size...

And I think a small percentage of additional space is also lost by the O/S in the creation of partitions, etc.

For example, I think it was with our old system that when I installed Windows 2000, 8MB of the disk space it reported was unavailable, even with a single partition. When I tried to manually create partitions, the maximum allowed partition size reported was that much less than the disk size reported, and it would not allow me to enter through a disk size equal to the reported disk size or between the disk size reported and maximum allowed partitin size reported. Even with Windows 2000 installed on this 6GB disk, 8MB would show up as unpartitioned space. And this is even with how I usually let Windows 2000/XP Setup create partitions itself after telling it to install on an unpartitioned, unformatted drive (Setup handles it all).

I think the most probable uses of this disk space is in the information used to store the partitions and File Allocation Tables, so that by the time you look at the number of MB available for actual files and folders, a bit of the space, reported by say, the BIOS, has already been used.

Thanks to the BIOS update for my Atrend 6130 motherboard I am able to use Hard Disc recognition up to 135 GB! And it WORKS! Just a few hours ago I reinstalled on a 80 GB seagate drive Windows 98 SE and this on a 233 Mhz Pentium II PC! I still use this 'Old Bastard' for text related purpuses. My original 4 GB Primary Hard Disc crashed a week ago and now I can connect it as a slave drive to see if I can recuperate some lost files. I backed up most of it but I'm still missing a few things.
