I am running a Gateway motherboard (MSI 6389) with a VIA KM133 Chipset. The tech specs indicate support for 1GB of SDRAM. I purchased (2) 512MB DIMMS (PC133/100/66) from PNY and added them to the board. However, the bios was seeing Bank 0 at 512MB and Bank 1 at 256MB. I swapped them around with the same result. I mixed them up with some older 128MB DIMMS and it always saw one at 512 and one at 128. Bottom line, the RAM seems to be OK. Check out what happened when I flashed the BIOS...

I flashed the AMI BIOS from 0AAWVP06 to 0AAWVP09. Immediately after the flash, both DIMMS were displayed at 512MB each, with a DRAM
frequency of 100MHz. When the PC rebooted after the
flash, it sees one dimm as 512MHz and one as 256MHz at
133MHz.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Rob

Can you set your board for 100MHz manually for testing purposes?

No, I looked for that setting and cannot find it on the motherboard. The BIOS setting for that are greyed out, so I cannot change it. Any idea how to crack the bios so I can change it?
