Rainbow, sir: patched BIOS does not allow access to the
"Standard CMOS Setup" section (lockup; only way out
is 3-finger salute) or the "IDD HDD Auto Detection"
section (displays numeral "2" only and locks up).
However, i AM able to POST and BIOS does indeed
find 40GB Maxtor with its full capacity, and am able
to boot to various OS and function fine (with no errors
in use to date). [GhostPro alone gave me anything
unusual, but still made binary partition copies that
verified and restored fine.
As to posting this patch for others use...perhaps you
would like to fix the above-noted problems..or just
include a notice to not use those areas of CMOS setup.
If you care to attempt another patch with fixes, i will
be glad to test it fully. Thanks - ldcjmd (ex-SysAdmin)

Oops, forgot to state the Flash type is
"Winbond 29EE011 / 5V" in case that
will help (although MB specs state that
various OEM flash is used on different
rev boards).

Looks like another BIOS which has some problems with the >64GB patch. If your drive is less than 64GB, I can send you another patched version that will support HDDs up to 64GB and all the menus will work OK.

Post subject: Also looking for patched i430HX-2A59FT59C-00 BIOS. |

Hello -
Some time back I flashed my S1563 board with the latest from Tyan. The system ID at the bottom of the display now appears as 07/09/98-i430HX-2A59FT59C-00 .
That got me to the 32 GB point. Plugging in a 40 GB drive caused a lockup.
Found this forum in a search run on Google.
Could I get a copy (or a pointer to the file) of the updated BIOS to handle 64 GB or 120 GB? (Preferably the upper as 120 GB EIDE-ATA drives are still available at the local store).
Your time is appreciated.

Hello and welcome, WalkingThrough.
The version Rainbow did to remove the 64GB bug seems to have had problems with the drive ldcjmd was using. I can offer you the following to try at your own risk:
1. "Rainbow" patched for 32GiB bug (should work with 40GB drive)
2. "Rainbow" patched for 64GiB bug (may or may not work with your drive)
3. apple_rom's bp patched (Usually works, replaces existing BIOS message when active.)
These will be at the "untested" link in my signature shortly after I get the FTP details back (my house was burgled and laptop stolen), or I can email them.
