I have a double layer 16x memorex DVD burner its about 2 or 3 years old. I talked to them about a year ago and they said my DVD burner can support write speeds up to 16x. I got a 50 pack of DVD+R 16x but everytime I burn a file to those disc's before it even has the chance to burn it will come back and say illegal disc and eject the media........ I talk to memorex one more time about 2 months ago and they said the DVD burner has a problem or a lock on it to keep it from burning at that speed. they said they will not do anymore firmware updates. my quesion now is their any 3rd party firmware updates that can bypass this problem ? I don't want a whole spindle of DVD+R to go to waste. my dvd burner label <memorex DVD+/DLRWL1F16

Looks like the Discs are incompatible to your burner. Did you try to set back writing speed to 8x ?
It's usually better to not use the media's max writing speeds, the higher the speed the more errors may occur.

For Firmwares try here:

seems like your burner is an OEM Liteon SOHW-1633S

i agree with Denniss. a firmware upgrade may help but reducing the write speed is less risky ;) and if your burner can't handle those discs at lower speeds it's you still can try to update.

Yesterday evening I tried to give my memorex DVD+/-RW DLR burner its old ffirmware again. when I flashed the firmware using mtk winflash it got up to 100%, but then it locked up and crashed after that my burner would not respond to any eject, injects or nothing like that. also it knocked out my DVD-CD-RW combo drive temporarily but that drive came back on after setting the bios back to its default settings and also using mtk wiflash again. when I used mtkwinflash again for memorex DVD-Burner it said it had completed itself and to reboot but nothing happen...... if somebosdy doesn't mind helping me gettting this DVD burner from the grave I would appreciate it.

also my memorex DVD burner uses this original firmware BWSE
