Hello, i am trying to get a new graphics card but i was told i need to know the manufacturer of my motherboard.
I have this number but i arent very computer literate and was wondering if anybody could help me with it.
I got it from my BIOS when my computer was booted.

07/28/2004 - KM266-8237-6A6LYM4BC-00

I need to find out my manufacturer of the motherboard and i was wondering if anybody would be able to tell me what type of graphics card are compatible with it. Confusedi get comfused by the whole PCI, AGP or ATI thing.
I think whichever type i need depends on my motherboard type.

my graphics card at the moment is VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP

MSI KM3M-V (MS-7061)

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=KM3M-V

Quote:
One AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) slot.
- AGP specification compliant.
- Supports AGP 1.5V, 4 x slot

That is considered old by todays standards and you will have trouble finding a new card for it that actually works. I even wonder if a 4x/8x AGP card will work in there.

I think it would be a better idea to save up for a new system if you want some return of investment. If you buy a good graphics card now it will suffer from the slowness of the rest of your system. The same holds true for extra memory, a new CPU or a new harddisk. Sometimes you need a new base to start from to see some real improvement.

What do you need the new graphics card for anyway?
