Hello
I have got a 14" notebook (VOBIS Highscreen Advanced iii). It seems, that it is a OEM Produkt from Chicony type MP 989, but I am no sure.
I like to enlarge the present HDD from 6GB to 40GB. The Bios don't recognise the bigger size. Is somebody know a patched working version of Bios for that model
Presently I found following messages on screen during the boot
Award Modular Bios v4.51
Copyright 1984-98
V1.0T2 1999/03/16
Mobile Pentium ii CPU at 300MHz
131072 K
04/16/1999-i44oBX-NS338-2A69KC2AC-00
Can you provide me also such Bios?

Thanks a lot for this info. 
The first infopage is a little confusing me, since there is no clear statement that the VOBIS Advanced III model is similar to the mentioned types.
The second tip is talking about the 128/137G border. I am not confident about if the system is able to start, in case the bios is not recognize the HDD before the Operatingsystem taking control. How the boot should start

well, the page is in german. i forgot to mention that.
there are a few things that could happen if you install a new hdd..
the bios crashes on autodetecting the drive: limit the (reported) capacity of the drive to 32GB (called clipping). the bios will not crash anymore but it will just see 32GB of the hdd. once the OS is loaded the full capacity will be available (even beyond 128GB since LBA48 is used).
i'm not sure if 2.5" notebook hdd have a clipping jumper.
the bios detects 8.4GB: not that bad..install the OS within the 8.4GB and once loaded the full capacity will be available.
the bios doesn't detect anything at all: check all connections. even an old bios should detect anything or at least crash ;)

The German language is not the problem, since I am German native speaker.
But I am still not understand how the OS can have access and boot from the HDD if the drive is not detected from BIOS. >> This is the primary bootdrive!
It looks like that there is no HDD connected, if I attache this drive. When I go back to the old 6GB drive everything works well.
Regarding the limit of 32GB >ok, I remember now this issue as well, but the drive dont have this jumper for limiting.
Can I go accross this problem if I try to use a SW drivemanger?

you can try a SW drive manager.
is the drive responding at all to the bios query? any clicks? any drive led lighting up? as i said before: the drive should be detected (with a wrong size) or the bios should at least crash.

| The drive is responding, in respect of the access, but then the bios crash at the point of detecting the HD.

you drive manufacturer usually has the right software for your needs :)
