You should have started your own thread on this topic.

But I think your problem maybe using the wrong program or bad image, or you have a hardware fault.

You were both right - I re-read the manual and discovered that you need to press Ctrl+F1 at the main menu to enable the advanced options

Never heard of that before, so I didn't think of it.

Well I opened it up in MODBIN6 again, and checked the SMART option. By default the option is disabled, so I enabled it, flashed and then loaded defaults.

The menu item is still not showing but now SMART comes up as enabled on the System summary screen after POST.

The hard drive definitely supports SMART - I can do a readout with speedfan after booting into windows.

Not sure if the CPU is HT or not. I think so.

There are other options like Quickboot which also do not show up. It's very odd

If that board was running with, as you say, a no-brand PSU with leaking caps then it's still possible that high levels of ripple could have damaged the caps or other components on the board.

Things can fail or be marginal in value/capability and yet not have any apparent signs of this

Gigabyte GA-8S648FX - Menu options enabled but not showing

I have a Gigabyte GA-8S648FX running BIOS revision version F8. Some options I can't find in the BIOS setup screen when I turn the PC on (such as turning on SMART, enable Hyperthreading etc) I opened the file with Modbin6 and checked the menu items. SMART options and other options were enabled as men...

Yeah it looked like something happened to the decompression block in your edit (Can't work out how or why though) but then the mod I just did to this BIOS was probably the most complicated I have done (and it wasn't very hard at all!) Usually I just enable disabled menu items (PCChips are good ones ...

Thanks, RebelsHaven - but I seem to have fixed it myself (more on this later, but first my reply re: your BIOS) I didn't try it as when I opened it with awdbedit I got this: --------------------------- Notice --------------------------- Unable to locate the Decompression Block within the BIOS Image!...

Surely it is editable somewhere though, after all everything is contained inside the BIOS ROM image, is it not?

Would it be in the DMI data? (Idea I just had)

Surely it must be in some kind of standardised location/format to be readable as a general property by linux (and other things) ?

It's a Chaintech 6ASA0 (sometimes just called 6ASA)

BIOS ID string is: 12/07/1999-692-596-8671-2A6LGC39C-00

You can download the BIOS from:

http://www.chaintech.com.tw/a2111_produ ... ?serno=237 (RAR archive of what seems to be all BIOS)

Latest one is "6asa0c07.BIN"

Changing Award BIOS build date - is it possible??

I have a motherboard where the latest BIOS was published in 1999. The problem here is that a lot of Linux distributions won't enable APCI support on this board by default because they complain the BIOS is too old. Now the board supports ACPI so this is not a problem, as if I force ACPI on using the ...
