I went to my motherboard manufacturor to find the bios file i need for flashing. the file has a .rom extension
members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=78279 is where i'm taken to download it.
I was wondering whether or not this is right? i was under teh assumption that bios files had a .bin extension.

AMI Bios usually has a .rom extension although it contains binary data .

And do NOT download BIOSes from DriverGuide - I've seen corrupt ones there...
Patched and tested BIOSes are at http://wims.rainbow-software.org
UniFlash - Flash anything anywhere

I've even seen a ZIP file that was OK but the file inside was bad... Use that site only when you really need and check the BIOS before flashing (using MODBIN for Award BIOSes and AMIBCP for AMI BIOSes).
