I wanted to flash my AMI-Bios

M726MRT V1.2

I just found 1 file at PCCHIPS Archiv that must be the newest Nummber.
As I flasht it I got the errormessage:
Error 6 File too large.

The PCCHIPS File is 256kb

Then I tried an older one (the same version as I got) it had 128kb and it happens.

Can someone tell me a trick to flash it.

(Please dont write any slang-words, cause my English is not very good and its not nice to surch every word in dictionary)

check out this page for some (bios) fixes:

http://www.rainbow-software.org/hardware/m726tune.html

and for your bios problem: there's no way to flash a 256kB file into a 128kB chip. if it doesn't fit, it just doesn't fit. if you really want you can replace the bios chip with a larger (256kB) one and try flashing again. but there's a chance that the larger chip won't work in that board and i doubt that there's anything useful in the larger bios anyways.

is there a special reason you want to update the bios?

:( so it is!

Problem: USB and Sound doesn't run under WinXP.
I know, that the board is normaly for Win98 but i tried it under WinXP

Sometimes at the booting of WinXP, it hangs up.
WinXP is surching the drivers of the sound etc after loading the Chipset-Driver ... M1541

Nothing happens then.

After that, I always have to start the Repairoption by Installing from CD.

So I hoped, that an BIOS-Update could help.

PS: The M726 isn't the right board.

The latest 1MBit/128KB Bios is reported to be "Release 12/04/1999 S" , what's your currently installed version ?

This board has an ALI chipset and AFAIK a CMedia 8738 soundcard.

Try http://www.nvidia.com/page/uli_drivers.html for ALI/ULI drivers and www.cmedia.com.tw for soundcard drivers.

soundchip is a CMedia CMI 8330 (ISA device, but listed as PCI even at cmedia :/)

M726 and M726MRT are almost the same: despite some minor design differences (slot1 vs. slot1/s370 and one isa vs. two isa) they use the same (buggy) bios. they use the same chipset no matter how it's called by pcchips it is the ALi Aladdin Pro II aka M1621/M1543C.

:?
I dont want to take the onboardsound, I 've got a Blaster Soundcard.
But there are some little problems.

I think, that I have tried all BIOS Updates after 093099.
The PCCHIPS BIOS for M726 is the same but also with 256kb.

I've found one at www.rd-computer.de/pc-chips/bios.htm
that is ok, but not the newest one.

I don't want pay money for an old computer like www.bios-driver.com

But I disabled the APM at the WinXP-Options and I think that had clear the most problems.
But the BIOS-Update is not solved.

did you disable the onboard sound? did you read that pci3 and the cmedia chip use the same irq? did you read that the irq routing table in the bios is all messed up which leads to errors with winxp? did you read that you need a bios with 'PCI-33 deferred' option unlocked in bios to fix the UDMA ide corruption problem? did you read that you need to switch off (switch to disabled) the 'delayed transaction' option in the bios?

so your problem is: the add-on pci soundcard and the usb ports are not working with windows xp, right? are there any error messages in the device manager?

A google search with 991204s.rom gives quite a lot hits, maybe try those downloads.

Internet archive seems to have a copy of this file available, too but the last byte is missing. Usually repairable with Winrar.
