:?: Hi guys.
I spent some hours to find FREE bios update for my Socket A MB and nothing. There is one through e-support in MA but $60.00. I tried to detect new 300Gig hardy, the bios detects full size but when I start to install winXP it reads only about 130Gigs or so availiable.
I went to manufactures site, they have all but mine as usually.
My old bios: 62-0620-001131-00101111-040201-sis740-m841LR
Thanks.

The initial release of Windows XP only recognised the first 128GB.

XP SP2 recognises much more - I am running a 200GB disk with no problems and I think it should recognise your 300GB (not sure though).

I am not sure about XP SP1.

The only other thing I should mention is that I installed the 200GB disk as a secondary after installling XP XP2 on a <128GB as a primary. But I still think the O/S install on >128GB with XP SP2 should be no problem.

AFAIK you need XP with integrated SP1 to access that big HDD. But it should be no problem to install XP obto thw first 128GB, then install SP1 or 2 and then partition the other free space.

I dug out the DVD collection of Bios's saved over time, & found I have
4 bios updates for this board...
020311s.zip
020620s.zip
020809s.zip
020823S.zip

I started archiving Bios's from most MoBo ftp's
a few years ago when I started noticing some were
no longer hosting older Soc3, P1 & 2 systems any more..
