Matsonic MS9138E (surely has a Eurone/PCChips/ECS-brother, too)
latest bios from KURIAKI's archive (Matsonic support site is down atm):

http://kuriaki.myftp.org:8245/Archives/ ... 030522.zip

use amiflash or uniflash.

EDIT: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/printpage/65/

MS9138E is M925 from PCChips :)

Verification error = Flash failed

Data supposed to be in the Flashrom does not compare to the data in your file used to update. Maybe there's some kind of flash protection enabled, either per Bios or per Jumper.

Look at JP4 jumper.
Pins 1-2 position is the correct.
More than 100,000 BIOS strings in my database just now!

I'm starting to wonder if it's not some Y2K6 self destruct mechanism...

I wanted to update the bios because of power issues, ie. would not shut down thru software nor hardware without holding down the power button for 4-5 seconds.

MY MAIN question is, how long should it take for the bootblock mode to recognize the AMIBOOT.ROM? I have now collected almost all the variants of bios for this board. It was identified by the ami-ID to be an ECS (EliteGroup M925). Unfortunately I did not know that the provided flash program would not automatically save or even prompt to save the original bios. doh.

Flash failed and now so is my sanity.

Other than the power issues the board was working fairly well for the time I had it running which was about a day.

Has anyone ever sucessfully recovered via the bootblock failsafe?

I put the floppy in formatted to 1.44, hold down ctl + home and turn on the box. It then continually acceses the floppy, ie. "access...beep...access...beep...etc. ad infinitum"

The jumpers are all correct.... Should I short the cmos DURING the flash?!?!? I took out the cmos battery the last time I cleared it and left it out now since I was having no luck otherwise.

I've also tried putting amiflash.com and dos4g.exe and F82741.exe on the disc as well but to no avail.

I also put in a query to the bios site but no word from them, yet. Maybe the holiday has kept them busy.

? h e l p ?

I'll put up the ami-id info page once I get it off the drive that I didn't back up, if that will help.

edit: Here's the amibid info for future referrence...

there are several reasons for a verification error.

1. the bios chip is (partly) damaged
2. the bios chip is protected against writing (either bios option or hardware jumper)
3. the bios chip is a replacement chip and not designed to be flashed at all
4. the bios chip is a replacement chip and not designed to be flashed in THIS mainboard (e.g. requires a different programming voltage)
5. the bios chip is not supported by the flasher you are using or by any flasher at all
I wanted to update the bios because of power issues, ie. would not shut down thru software nor hardware without holding down the power button for 4-5 seconds.
power off after 4 seconds is the standard setting for any atx mainboard. there is nothing wrong with this. you can change this behaviour in the bios.

with amitboot you only need AMIBOOT.ROM on your floppy..you can release CTRL+HOME after it accesses the floppy btw.
check this site for further instructions.

Thanks for the response cp,

The power issue was not that it took 4 seconds on the button but that the power button method was the only way the motherboard would shutdown or reboot, ie. no software shutdown at all, not even ctl, alt, del. Even the reset button had issues.

I think I will just induct this board into the Hall of Doody since I could just get a much better board on ebay for the price of a new bios chip. Or just sell the P4 1.7 and fan that was supposed to live there. Any takers?
