Re: BIOS write protect issue

Hi, Yes, Awardflash 8.xx is definitely the issue here. These newer Awardflash versions can give strange problems on older boards. For Socket 7 boards you need Awardflash 7.xx. I'm using Awardflash 7.95 and this version works fine here, on any socket 7 board with Award BIOS, except Asus. (For Asus so...

roffle, are you using a HP Pavillion 6640C? If so, then the answer is Yes! I have reports from several HP 6640C users indicating that the Award P5S-VM Rev 1006 BIOS from Asus works flawlessly on their machine and already increases performance by 5-10% with the original CPU installed! And with my pat...

Jedidiah, there is a TI5VG+ -Z6-0525 BIOS available for your board with full 128GB support. A patched version of this BIOS, with full K6+ support, is available from my k6plus page.
See my signature below for the link and download the TI5VGZ6J.ZIP file.

@KachiWachi

The original 12/07/98-i430VX-2A59GHTBC-00 BIOS I used only says: PC Chips M-520 (Rel 1.1A) but I believe it is a type "S" BIOS.

The BIOS is patchable for 128GB and extented AMD support. Let us know what you need! :wink: Jan. Well, that, of course! ;) There wouldn't happen to be undocumented Vcore settings, eh? If I could shoehorn a K6-2 450 onto this board, that would give me the board for Box 07 for Retro-LAN at Fandemoniu...

I've looked into the M520 12/07/98 BIOS and it seems to have IDE HDD support up to 32GB. CPU support includes the K6-2 and K6-III up to 400MHz but Write-Allocation support is limited to the K6 and original K6-2. So no WA for the K6-2CXT and K6-III, and the K6-2+ and K6-III+ are not supported at all....

If anyone wants to participate in beta testing this BIOS, please send me an e-mail. When testing is completed, I wil add this BIOS to my k6plus page. :...

KachiWachi, thanks for your attentiveness in this! :wink: OP also send me the same question per private mail. This was my answer: That Elpina MB is indeed the same as the PCChips M577 and Amptron PM9900. The 07/15/1998-577+ITE8661-2A5LEH0AC-00 BIOS you have now is the original Release for the M577 /...

It took me a bit longer than expected but the GA-586AT S Ver.1.32 BIOS is also patched now. I found about the same things to fix as in the 586ATV BIOS: K6-2CXT, K6-III, K6-2+, K6-III+, and Cyrix MII 4.0x multiplier support. I also fixed the 32GB and 64GB bugs for 128GB HDD support. KenOath, I send y...

Hi Papcina, Wow! This thread stirred some dormant memory cells. :wink: Back in 1998/99 I did al lot of Award BIOS patching for these 486 boards. Your 09/26/94-SIS-85C471B/E/G-2C4I9S23-00 Rev.G2. is indeed the latest BIOS from Soyo for the 25J/K/L. However, I have a newer 11/28/95-SIS-85C471B/E/G- BI...

Just to keep you all updated on the BIOS issue, Space Marine is now running the REV:F10 BIOS. This is the latest official BIOS I could find for the Lucky Star P54CE Ver.F board and it is a close match with the original REV:F03 BIOS he send me. This 02/14/97 REV:F10 BIOS has full support for the 3.2V...
