hi!
you guys see, i'm a noob, so be nice to me ;)

i bought a new cpu a couple of days ago, and of course I installed it immediatly.
my first problem was that the cpu wasnt recognized. after I visited the amd support site i knew i need a bios update.
i used uniflash and the bios i got from my mainboard manufacturor website.
allright, i made a backup and flashed my bios, and updated to the "new" bios i have downloaded.
usually i read unknown cpu at the startup now i can read athlon 2200 with 1,66 Ghz.
but it IS a Athlon xp 2800+ and not a 2200+!
I have no idea whats going on nor what i should do next...

some details:
Mainboard: Chaintech Apogee 7vjl KT333, Support AMD Duron/Athlon/Athlon XP+; VIA 8235with USB 2.0, ATA 133
on the user guide is standing CT-7VJL (don't know if it means anything...)

My OLD CPU:
AMD Athlon XP 2200+ with 1,79 Ghz; Socket A

My NEW one:
AMD Athlon XP 2800+, Socket A

i downloaded this file: http://www.chaintech.com.tw/tw/eng/Down ... &PISNo=138
(the first one)

in the really short description stands:
Feature : Supported AMD Duron
FSB133Mhz 1400+ 1600+ 1800+ CPU

I HAD a BIOS version 6 and now I installed a BIOS version 5 which was made AFTER v6! (I compared the development dates of both versions.
v6: xx-xx-2002
v5: 09-23-2003)

i finally want my pc to accept the new cpu, but thats not really possible!!

i accept any advices!
thank you very much!!!

What does the sticker on your BIOS chip say?

i found out something quite interesting today:

when i start my computer i read at the startup:
athlon 2200+ 1,66 ghz
the cpu voltage is 133

if i put my voltage to 166 i can read:
athlon 2800+ 2,0 ghz

...? any ideas....

the real speed should be about 2,4ghz at 133 voltage, and not 2,0 at 166!

btw, where do i find my bios sticker? cant find it on the mainboard...

133 and 166 is FSB setting and not volltage !!
-> 166MHz is OK for an AthlonXP 2800+
-> 2GHz is OK for AthlonXP 2800+ (2.083 MHZ)

There's no AthlonXP running with more than 2.2GHz

There are only two types of Athlon XP 2800+;
- Tbred-b version @ 13.5 x 166 = 2250 MHz
- Barton version @ 12.5 x 166 = 2083 MHz

No, 133 x 18 = 2400 MHz or anything like that :)
