Hi,
i am upgrading my dinosaur at resent. Currently running an AMD-K7500MTR51B processor in a Micro Star MS6167 board
I have the chance of a AMD-A0800MPR24B slot A processor. Will this work on the micro star board ??
My mate has just brought the processor down, and he took me to this website
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Pro ... _3,00.html
This shows that the MS-6167 board is only compatable with the K7 prefix processor.
Will the "flash" work to enable the A0 processor to work
I only ask as this looks complicated and i dont want to completly wreck the system by a mistake.
Thanks
Rosey

KURIAKI,
Installed the processor, but windows xp wont start up.
Goes through the memory test, but then displays "File missing or corrup"
<windows Root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
I tried 10 times but same message, even in safe mode.
When I put the original processor back in, it booted up OK.
What do you think ??
Is it a compatability issue between the K7 and A0 processor even though they look the same, they are not ????
Cheers

A new processor is a big hardware change for Windows.
You need to reinstall it.

No - a processor change does not require to reinstall windows-
Either the CPU does not work as it should (compatibility issues with bios or motherboard revision, damaged CPU) or non-adequate cooling or weak PSU. If memory worked fine with the old CPU then it should be fine with the new CPU.

denniss,
When you start the PC the processor is recognised as an AMD 800mhz, then does the memory test, then black screen and message about the missing or corrupt file.
My gut feeling is compatability.
Does anyone know the difference between the K7 prefix and the A0?
From the microstar site my board only shows K7 type
board type 6167
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Pro ... _3,00.html
I think this is the problem ???
I am prepard to give a reinstall a try, but will loose all data on hard drive.
But will a reinstall work, i dont want to alter the bios to boot from cd drive first, to find that a reinstall will not do anything, and then when the K7500 is put back in i have even more problems.

Ok, think i have found the problem,
The processor I am trying to install is a T-Bird version (i.e. on die cache as opposed to off die L2 cache).
I have no idea what this means but could this be it, just not compatable or do i need to manually change a setting in the BIOS ??

AFAIK T-Bird is suported by this board but it may require a higher motherboard revision.
Bios 1.6 should support T-Birds up to 1GHz
Does it work if you disable L2-Cache ?
Really sounds like incompativility or damaged CPU - if possible back to dealer with this CPU.

Ok, partial success.
Entered the bios and disabled the "exterenal cache" (due to the on die of the thunderbird)
Booted up, and WOW windows xp loaded. It started to go through its start up (anti virus, printer etc), then switches itself off and resets.
This process just carries on and on.
Does this help anyone ??

Damaged CPU I/D think. Another source of thsi problem might be insufficient cooling, verify the CPU-cooler is seated accordingly. It's easy to do it wrong with Slot-A coolers. Does the cooler get hot or does it stay cool ?
Hi All,
Right here we go again.
Still cant get the 800mhz processor to work, but the 500 and 700 mhz will.
This is getting stupid
AMD-K7500MTR51B will work
AMD-K7700MTR51B will work
AMD-K7800MPR52B will not work
AMD A0800MPR24B will not work
Latest bios as well
