Don't ask how to over-clock.

I've tried to install this 2.8GHz p4(SL7D8) into my DFI PE21-EL motherboard. But once I try to start the machine, all i get is a blank screen. I've done my research before purchasing the processor and found that all my hardware is compatible with it. DFI released an update for the bios to provide compatibility with 2.8GHz chips. The bios has been flashed with the different releases since that update and it still doesn't work.

After doing some research, i'm thinking that the problem might have to do with the Microcodes.

The CPUID of the SL7D8 isn't included in there. Any ideas or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Maybe your mainboard does support 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 processors but not a 2.8GHz Prescott. DFI may refer to the older Northwood cores.

Better return your CPU, too. It's a non-HTT variant with slow 133 MHz FSB (AKA FSB533)

The minimum you should try to get is a 3.2 Ghz Northwood with HTT or a Pendium D or an Athlon 64 or an A64-based Sempron.
