Hi, I have Epox EP-5G945-M/G motherboard that in the manual says supports 65nm Prescott cpus. I would like to know if it is possible to put E2160(which is Core 2 65nm cpu). Epox is not existing anymore, maybe it is only CPU microcode problem, or maybe VRM specification is older. How can I technically check what kind of VRM is used, in BIOS or to maybe to see what kind of chip is used on the motherboard?

This is the only site where there is bios for this motherboard

E4xxx and E6xxx series only according to that one. With some extra effort I might be able to retrieve more info... Will take a bit of time though, my Chinese is non-existant (Google translate needed).

Please look at my link http://common.ddix.ru/data/download/bra ... _Multi.pdf
This is the latest bios http://common.ddix.ru/data/download/bra ... hf6727.zip
Your link is different motherboard on the picture, chipset i945GC and bios from 2008. My motherboard is i945G chipset with bios from 2006. Cpu is E2160 (65nm allendale based, FSB 800Mhz,1MB cache ) same specification as E4xxx (2MB cache, allendale 65nm,FSB 800Mhz). The question was how to technically identify VRM specification of my motherboard ? Should I look for some chip on the motherboard or you can extract it from BIOS file. Thanks.

Hm I see. I will try and find out if any information is left on that one. Normally I would expect Supox to have info but it seems they have gone the way of the dodo too by now...

In next link there is pinmod for detecting Core2Duo CPU's on older motherboards that support 65nm dual core cpus, but it also depends on BIOS.

In one of your BIOS FAQ you're telling that there is possibility to use BIOS from different manufacturer if SAME CHIPSET and I/O chip is used.
From my searching I only found this board from Jetway 945GZDMS-6H that has same I/O Fintek F71872F, but slightly different chipset 945GZ (crippled version of 945G).

If I look from same manufacturer than Epox AG945I PRO has same chipset but slightly different I/O chip Fintek F71882FG.

So what do you think which BIOS from this two motherboards will work with my motherboard Epox EP-5G945-M/G ( 945G and Fintek F71872F) ??
