my last bios got fried on an asus a7n8x, and so i sent it in to be reflashed, but they sent it back empty... so i got an old socket 7 junker from a friend, with 4 evo slots, and 2 sd slots, which i will assume wont read doublesided ram, because its only recognizing a fourth of what i have. it came with a "pentium s with coprocessor" as identifyed by the bios, running at 133mhz, which i have since replaced with a cyrix mii@233 mhz, and i tryed using an amd k6-2, however it apparently booted but showed nothing on the screen, and caused things to heat up insanely. upon further inspection i have identified the board as a matsonic of some sort, with the current bios # of i430vx-02271997c-00 and i was wondering if there happens to be a newer, or patched bios to fix this problem.

after reading the included txt file, i see that it fixes a hard drive calculation error, but does it also fix compatibility with the K6-2?

See if you can get Jan to look at it.

I think the regulators will pop at first sight of a K6-2 on that board...

But a K6-2/III+ might be OK...if he can support 10A on VCore that is...

recent development,

figured out that it doesnt matter if i use the k6-2 over my Cyrix mII, the jumpers only allow for 200 mhz worth of processing power and it cuts all my ram in half.

not the greatest conditions for WinXP pro.

would anybody have a good socket seven motherboard to suggest for my k6-2, and are any still on the market?

The Gigabyte GA-586SG board for example.

This can be configured to support CPUs up to around 400MHz. I am running a K6-2 in one of these boards that is rated for 350MHz; I have overclocked it slightly to 366MHz and it is running well. The only difficulty is the latest BIOS (v1.15) does not have definitions for the K6-2, so it reports the CPU as a K6 instead. But it still runs the CPU at the same speed.

As with most Socket 7 boards, you would have to source one second hand though. I expect there should be a range of Socket 7 boards that will go beyond 200MHz.

as for sourcing these boards, is there a good secondhand retailer site, or would i need to hit ebay?

The GA-586SG should report it as K6-3D (that's the K6-2 old name). But there should be an easy fix for this: Use the rom.by Bios patcher and your K6-2 should be seen as a K6-2
