K8 Upgrade - 760GX problem

Hello you helpful people.

I've just installed a Sempron 3000 on the ASRock K8Upgrade-760GX mobo.

It stops and says processot not recognised. Aha, aha thought, I checked the ASRock website and the support for this processor comes with BIOS 1.8, my board has 1.4

I downloaded the update and created a bootable floppy but the screen stops before getting as far as trying to boot from any device.

I took the battery out to reset the BIOS so it tries to bot from the floppy first, but it just gets as fasr as the POST, checking the HD and CD-ROM. Then it says checking NVRAM and I get the system halted message as the CPU isn't recognized.

Any ideas please?
