On the Asus website, the latest bios version for the A7N8X-X motherboard is version 1010
The description for 1010 is "Support AMD Sempron CPU" which is self explanatory.
The description for version 1009 it says "Improve certain memory modules stability".
Has anyone with the know-how had a look at the 1009 binary to see what they changed?
Does anyone know how this extra stability for certain memory modules is acheived?
Thanks to any gurus with answers
Asus a7n8x-x bios revisions
My advice would be to go with the latest version, even if it may be a little slower.
Probably the changes to improve stability have been made because there have been some stability problems in the previous version. If faster timings were not causing any stability problems, I would not have expected the manufacturer to change these timings. Keep in mind that to satisfy their users, they probably want the best performance out of a stable system.
On the other hand, it does mention certain memory modules. Perhaps with better quality RAM they have left the timings alone as they may not be as sensitive to aggressive timings - and with cheaper memory modules they have adjusted the timings to compensate for possible problems. So perhaps with quality RAM, the latest BIOS could configure aggressive timings.
