Hello all,

What part of the Phoenix Award BIOS is responsible for the chipset and/or USB? Is it the XGROUP, YGROUP, something else?

I'm having a heck of a time finding an Intel 955X ICH7 based motherboard that doesn't have problems with external USB CD/DVD drive.

The issues are with booting from them and/or just being left plugged in during post.

All drives work fine from within WinXP and on other systems.

So far I've tried a Supermicro PDSGE and an Abit AW8-MAX.
Both of them use Phoenix/Award BIOS and have the exact same issue. I suspect the problem is possibly in the BIOS.

Both companies are currently ignoring the issue.

If I do find a 955X based board that works, I'd like to be able to compare the rom files but need to know which ones I should concentrate on.

Thanks
