I have access to a the Phoenix Bios Editor Demo, and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on how to tweak any thing to increase speed.

This isn't a very important project, but I am just trying to learn Bios tweaking on an old HP system. It has a Trigem Cognac board with Phoenix 4 core, release 6.

I have managed two successful but trivial hacks: changing the boot logo, and changing the oem string from HP to my name.

Does anyone have a good resource for which values to change?

If anyone has the patience, I could post screen shots, or any info that you need. Or if someone really loves me (or just working for free), I could send the bios file.

I am familiar with general bios tweaking, but I have not modified the actual bios before, so I am needing a few pointers.

Thanks in advance

EDIT: Some of the main things that I would like to know if they are possible with this bios is: can I tweak memory clocks or timings, fsb, voltages, or any temp displays (doubt it). This board also will only take a 256mb stick if it is double sided, so I was wondering if I could change it to make it more compatible.

I doubt that any of this is possible, but I can always hope...

I asked Phoenix about documentation for their bios editor, and this is what I got:

"Welcome to Phoenix Technologies Technical Support.

Thank you for your request regarding Phoenix technical publications. Because Phoenix supplies BIOS and Core System software to manufacturers who adapt it (and our documentation) to their specific needs and requirements, we are unable to provide the technical documents that you have requested. Please contact your Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), computer/motherboard manufacturer, or system supplier to request their official documentation.

If you are the OEM, please contact your Phoenix sales representative. He or she can send you the most recent documents for your system. If you do not have a sales representative please call Jocelyn enencial at 408-570-1149.

You can also check our Phoenix web site for FAQs and general product information. Here is the link for the Customer Support page:

Hello,

I was looking at the Phoenix Bios Editor demo, and I have a question. In the
help file, it says:

"Script (read-only) This tab displays the unassembled script file. It is for
reference only and is not editable. The script informs the splash screen
engine how the splash screen was constructed. For details, refer to
FirstBIOS Splash Screen Customization Guide, located in this directory:
1STBIOS\DOC.001\SPLASH.PDF."

The Editor Demo did not come with any other documentation; how do I obtain
any available documents?

Thanks,
Zachary"

Anyone have access to any of these documents, or know how to get them? Just curious..... I don't want to get anyone in trouble.

You say you have access to Phoenix Bios Editor, any chance of a copy, as I want to update my VAIO bios and Sony no longer support the model I have.

Thanks in advance.

Hi.

zbarnes does not have a real full version of Phoenix BIOS Editor.....
You just can say that there are methods[...] which just enables Phoenix BIOS Editor DEMO's Build BIOS feature inside the GUI.
Not more.

The real full version of Phoenix BIOS has much more capabilities and includes/contains some pdf documents & costs ~ 6000 USD. :( :( :(

Just like with AMI's Visual eBIOS development software.

Yes, thank you for pointing that out.

I don't have the documentation that would give me the real "full" version, just the program.

Hi.

It is really sad that some people do not understand the meaning of the phrase:
"to read and understand" / "reading and understanding". :D
It is sad that some people cannot and want not to read at all. :D

Facts:

+ BNOBTC means Borg Number One's BIOS Tool Collection.

+ The size of BNOBTC v5 archive is 64,40 MB.

+ The online BNOBTC =!(is not) Phoenix BIOS Editor

+ The online BNOBTC contains the Phoenix BIOS Editor

+ The size of the Phoenix BIOS Editor =!(is not) 25MB. It is ~5MB.

hi all,

I have a compaq nx5000 with a intel pro 2200 card with a whitelist for wireless minipcicard.

i buy a broadcom mini pci card and i want to make it run
but the bois send me an error message:
"104 ,Unsupported wireless network device detected. System halted. Remove device and restart "

the eeprom is soldered and it is riskly to mod the bios without a good knowledge.

My intel pro 2100 have PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1043&SUBSYS_25228086 ; Intel 2100 mPCI 3B - RoW

My broadcom 54G have id="PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4320&SUBSYS_12FA103C"

My hope is to run max Osx with the airport support

i mod the line at 00005cdc and replace the intel 2100 id by broadcom id in the joint piece. can you see if checksum is ok.

bios modded and unmodded

Thanks a lot
