Google didn't help :(
BIOS v. 2D crashes while detecting hard disks. Hope to get the board working with v. 2C
If someone has it, please e-mail it to me (e-mail address is in the profile).

TIA

So far I have only found 2B and 2D (plus 1Mbit rev C), at www.nix.ru.
Rainbow's patcher says 2D supports large HDDs, so hanging at HDD detect is a puzzle. If you are trying a large HDD which supports UDMA, try disabling UDMA.

Used apple_rom's patcher to fix the 2B BIOS. Everything works fine now. Thank you, apple_rom :)

I hope nobody will get upset here if I wipe the dust off an old topic...
Had to fix another 6VIA86 recently. Looks like there was no a hard disk detect issue in 2D BIOS, there's something wrong with the ISA PnP so that it crashes just before the HDD detection, when there's an ISA card plugged in the board. That happened with an ISA sound card, unfortunately I didn't have any other ISA PnP cards to test :(

Interesting. Was the sound card Plug'n'Pray ? Does the "PNP OS" setting make any difference ?
Tested patched BIOSes. Untested patched BIOSes.
Emails *will* be ignored unless the subject line starts "Wim's BIOS forum"

Yes. With ESS chip (already forgot the exact model number).

I think it didn't. Tested all the possible combinations of the BIOS options that could lead to such a behavior - no help. Flashed in an earlier version of the BIOS and gave the computer back to the owner, so unfortunately can't test it once more.
