Not sure if this is a BIOS problem but since plugging in a Speedtouch 330 USB modem the sound playback on my computer is terrible - jerky, slow, stuttering. As soon as I unplug the USB connector for the Speedtouch, everything is fine again. Doesn't matter where the sound is sourced from (video or audio clips) or if it is WMA, MP3, WAV or even straight from CD (or what software I use), still the same problem. I am running XP Home on an AMD Athlon XP1700+, Chipset ALi M1647 rev 176, Unicore BIOS Agent Version 2.01. and C-Media CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio device - driver version 5.12.1.639. Award Medallion BIOS v6.0, AWARD PNP BIOS Extension V1.0A

Other info that I have:
BIOS date: 12/07/01
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v6.0
BIOS ID: 12/07/2001-M1647-A7A266
BIOS Eval: ASUS A7A266-E ACPI BIOS revision 1010

Several devices are on the same IRQ no. 9 - including the Audio Device, 2 x ALi PCI to USB Open Host Controllers (drivers 5.1.2600.0), and the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System (driver 5.1.2535.0).

Tried to look for manufacturer BIOS upgrade/flash but can't establish where I should be looking as none of the numbers above come up in searches on this or ASUS site.

Help please!

Thanks - Howard
