I need to know exactly why I would need to update the BIOS. I am a newbie in the hardware part of computers, and I really need some help with this.

Thanks!

And about how much do they cost on average? I have looked all over on the sites listed here and I cannot get an acutual price for them.

And this will probably be my last question.

They're usually FREE. You're entitled to all the available updates the manufacturers provide.

If you need an update that doesn't exist or never will (at the manufacturer's site), then you'll have to buy one. Usually at www.unicore.com , etc.
