cd rom not detected

how can i tell if the bios is recongnizing my cd rom on start up screen it does not detect it and the light comes on but the cd rom does not play anything also my cd player is missing how can i fix this :?:

try it, jumpered to master, connected alone on a properly connected ide cable
then get into the bios, use autodetect harddisks if you have it and/or make sure the disk entry is not set to none

ok, let's get some things cleared out first:

1. Did you install the cdplayer yourself recently or was it in there and did it stop working?
2. Try booting from a floppy to see if dos can find your cdplayer : http://people.jyu.fi/~eejuviik/utils/boot622.exe (just download it, insert a floppy when it asks and boot from the floppy - if it's ok you get some message like cdrom installed)
3. if not, you probably should check the cable and jumper (as said in my previous message) - you've got power 'cause the light on the cdplayer comes on
4. if all this don't help you could include your mainboard model and bios version
if all else fails, try brute force :)
