Hi,

A few months ago I wanted to partition a harddisk (secondary master) with partition magic. It didnt work out good, but the biggest problem was that from that day that harddisk was not detected correct anymore most of the time. However, sometimes it was!
I put another harddisk as master device on the secondary IDE and for a few weeks it worked ok, but now also this harddisk is sometimes not recognized correctly after which i cannot access it in windows.
The name in the bios menu has been changed into a very strange string.
Will clearing the cmos help, because sometimes the harddisk is the detected CORRECTLY??

I have an ABIT KT7 motherboard with Award modular BIOS V6.00PG
12/15/2000-8363-686B-6A6LMA19C-WW
the hardisk is 40 gb maxtor, but another harddisk had the same problem. (when i put the hd in another computer it works without any problem)

thanks for your help

maybe it was the cable because it looks ok now after I changed the cable.
But still I have a problem(also with the other cable).
This problem i only have in winxp (in win98se for example it is ok):
Whenever i try to send large amount of data from one harddisk to the other my pc crashes and restarts. This also happens when i want to copy data to my cd-writer.
This happens when I send large amount of data from an IDE1 device to an EDI2 device or vice versa.
on EDI1 I have primary harddisk and secondary cd-rom
on EDI2 I have primary harddisk and secondary cd-writer

I changed all these devices already a lot of times, changed dma settings in BIOS, changed cables, etc. but nothing works......
small data transfer goes ok!!!
anybody?????
thanks in advance!!

Looks like chipset problem. The board uses KT133 chipset, one of the worst chipsets in the world... Flash the latest BIOS and install latest VIA 4-in-1 driver pack. Maybe it will help.
