Totally stumped

Hi

I have a Gateway computer. When I start it up, the memory test appears and after its done, nothing happens. There is message at the bottom of the screen, saying press F1 to enter BIOS, when I press F1, the message at the bottom changes to entering BIOS, but the BIOS screen never appears.

somehow the CPU is not transferring to BIOS it seems.

Dont know what should be done ? Any ideas, recommendations ?

Has it ever worked? If so, what happened recently that might have caused this? How old is the system?
