WIN 98 Date update
Does anyone have a solution as to why when my machine is re powered the date/time has not incremented. I understood that if the bios battery was dead ( i have replaced it) that all time/bios settings would be lost? The time remains exactly as it was when the machine was switched off.

Make sure you put the battery in correctly, that it is actually a good battery, and that there isn't a fried trace on the motherboard. Also look for a missing jumper near there...some boards have a jumper to select an on-board battery or an external one.
If there is no Time update when the machine is powered off, the battery is usually too weak to run the RTC, so to conserve the remainig battery life, the Time function is usually stopped internally.
