Re: Sony Vaio flash failure (ASUS OEM board)

Well darn. Seems everything I try ends in failure. Good thing the computer was free and not of a whole lot of importance to me. 1. I have 6 other desktop machines in the house, they are all socket 1155 or AM3, ALL have 8-pin serial BIOS chips. 2. Desoldered the PLCC BIOS chip using a hot air rework ...

Re: Sony Vaio flash failure (ASUS OEM board)

Hmmm, so probably I have damaged the flash chip trying to get it into bootblock by shorting address pins, or worse, damaged the circuits on the chipset that controls the write enable? Looks like my EPROM programmer is too old to handle an SST49LF020, perhaps I can hot-swap it into something else to ...

Re: Sony Vaio flash failure (ASUS OEM board)

Yes, I had to use InstallShield CAB File Viewer to extract it, but I did get the .bin file that way.

Re: Sony Vaio flash failure (ASUS OEM board)

Yes, chip is ID'd properly. Yes, I choose the option to include the bootblock, but I've also tried the option not to include it. There's no write protect jumper that I was able to find. There is a "BIOS Update" option in BIOS that was already set to Enabled. I tried setting it to Disabled, but it be...

Re: Sony Vaio flash failure (ASUS OEM board)

Yes, Uniflash attempts the flash, but then says "Verify failed". I can't get Flashrom to work. When I supply parameters: flashrom.exe --programmer internal It says "Opening DMI Pipe failed!" I wonder if I killed the flash chip or chipset when I couldn't get it to boot (before I discovered it only bo...

Sony Vaio flash failure (ASUS OEM board)

I have an old P4 Sony Vaio PCV-1102. It has an Asus P4S533-VX motherboard, which was made specifically for Sony and never sold in retail channels. The computer was free and having problems with PCI video cards in Windows, so I decided to experiment. I tried flashing an Asus P4S533-MX motherboard BIO...

Re: Dell Optiplex 745 doesn't recognize Pentium Dual Core

Yes, I have the latest BIOS, 2.6.4. It's the 45nm Wolfdale which is not support. Is it possible to add support?

Dell Optiplex 745 doesn't recognize Pentium Dual Core

I have a Dell Optiplex 745, it is an LGA775 Core 2 Duo machine with 65nm 2.1GHz C2D 6400. I tried to put a Pentium Dual Core E6300 in it, this is a newer 45nm 2.8GHz chip based on C2D. It would not post with this CPU at all. Is there any way to add CPU support into the Dell BIOS? I've already extrac...

IBM TP570E - Can't do anything with bios

Is there any editor that I can use with my Thinkpad 570E BIOS? First, I have used Winphlash and followed the instructions to backup the BIOS, however, Phoenix BIOS Editor can't open it. It complains about not being able to find PNPVBS or something like that (I am at work so I don't remember exactly ...

Yeah, unfortunately my CPU is the Sempron E6 version listed as NONE. The only encouragement is NONE = UNDER TESTING instead of no support. I already have the latest v2.2 BIOS and my CPU is recognized as "AMD Unknown Processor". I have a EPROM programmer that supports many 4Mbit flash ROM so I though...

Possible to add CPU to BIOS?

I have an MSI 6702 motherboard that doesn't recognize m AMD Sempron 64 CPU. This seems to be causing problems with the Cool 'n Quiet feature not working. MSI seems to have abandoned this motherboard. I have MMTool and can extract the POST module that contains the CPU strings, but is there any way to...
