Hi,
I have 10 old machines kitted out with an MSI 6160, with the following AMI Bios:
BIOS Date: 01/01/98
BIOS Type: American Megatrends
BIOS ID: 61-0208-001169-00111111-071595-440LX-1440L000
OEM Sign-On: A6160O1 V1.3 083099
Chipset: Intel 440EX/LX rev 3
Superio: Winbond 977EF rev 1 found at port 3F0h
They originally came with 4Gb Drives. I was trying to hook new HDDs up to some of them, and the machine freezes when trying to detect the Drives. Looking around for an appropriate BIOS Upgrade, I can only find an Award BIOS for the board....
You seem to have a patched 6160 BIOS on this site, but that is Award as well.
Can I flash an Award BIOS onto the board?
Any suggestions on how to proceed?
The drives I tried were a 15GB Maxtor and a 60 GB IBM/Hitachi.
TIA,
Marc
60 GB: 61-0208-001169-00111111-071595-440LX-1440L000
OK, I tried the Gigabyte one, and the message I get is "Invalid BIOS ID".ajzchips wrote:You'll need the AMI flasher, or the universal flasher from Gigabyte, or Uniflash for the purpose.
Do I just disable the BIOS ID check flag, or is this an indication of a deeper problem?
Sorry, if all this is trivial, but I don't usually delve into such depths on my hardware ^_^
TIA,
Marc
I tried Uniflash, with the patched Award MS6160 BIOS on http://wims.rainbow-software.org (10/20/1998-i440LX-W977-2A69JM4MC-00). Flashing with Bootblock results in a verify error on the last bit of the writing process.ajzchips wrote:You can disable the BIOS ID check flag, but Dennis' suggestion might be even better.
Fortunately, the original BIOS Backup appears to be flashing OK (I think).
Any suggestions?
What Flash ROM type does UniFlash display?
Patched and tested BIOSes are at http://wims.rainbow-software.org
