I found this http://www.wimsbios.net/phpBB2/viewtopi ... ight=m6tza post and I am assuming that it should work for me as well. I just wanted to get a second opinion, and ask if there was a way to backup my current bios.

My info:

Program: eSupport.com BIOS Agent Version 3.41
BIOS Date: 02/03/99
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 02/03/1999-I440ZX-SMC60X-2A69KB0JC
OEM Sign-On: TZA0203D.
Chipset: Intel 440BX/ZX rev 3
Superio: SMC 60x rev 0 found at port 3F0h
OS: WinXP
CPU: Pentium II 500 Mhz MAX: 500 Mhz
BIOS ROM In Socket: Yes
BIOS ROM Size: 256K
Memory Installed: 192 MB
Memory Maximum: 512 MB
Memory Slot 01: 64 MB
Memory Slot 02: 128 MB

Thanks in advance.

No problem there, all looks fine.

To save a backup BIOS, just use AWARDFLASH's /SY switch.

The bios appears to recognize the drive, but then hangs at the...

AWARD SOFTWARE, INC
SYSTEM CONFIGURATIONS

(SYSTEM INFO ETC...)

Pri. Master Disk : LBA,UDMA,30670MB (this is my old hard disk)
Pri. Slave Disk : LBA,UDMA, (this is where it stops and will not boot)

So is something misconfigured or will this new bios update still not detect 120 GB disks?

In that other thread you mentioned the user wanted to install a HDD > 32GB, which was done.

However, I did not see it mentioned how large the support was needed for.

Possibly that BIOS still contains the 64GB bug which means that HDD > 64GB will not be correctly detected.

Update on my situation!

I patched my bios with Rom.by bios patcher. It worked. Bios now detects the drive and successfully boots from the master (30.7 GB). However Windows XP (build 2600, no service packs) doesn't give any indication that the (120GB) drive is there. If I upgrade my OS to a newer version will this fix the problem? Guess this is my next step. Any advice would be appreciated., thanks.

Guess I was so excited that I forgot to partition and format it. Hrmm, I thought the box said pre-formatted...oh well. All is working now, but windows reports is as 111 GB. Anyone know why?

HDD manufactures use 1KB=1000Bytes, while the OS uses 1KB=1024KBytes...

...so a HDD of 120GB (120GB*1000MB/GB*1000KB/MB*1000B/KB=120000000000B) will be seen by the OS as 120000000000/1024/1024/1024GB=111.7GB, which is exactly your situation

Adds up. So everything is level. Big props to wimsbios, and all the people on this forum. A couple of days ago I "almost" gave esupport.com $70 bux0r to do what you guys have helped me with, but I believed there must be a better way. My deepest appeciation.
