Please notice that I haven't got a problem YET. I want to buy an extra harddisk (maxtor) with 160gb, but I seem to be unable to find out if my BIOS supports it. I've been looking for info but answers I came up with appeared to be different...

I'll give some info first.

Motherboard: MSI (Micro Star) K7T Turbo (MS-6330), NOT TURBO 2!

BIOS:
Program: eSupport.com BIOS Agent Version 3.33
BIOS Date: 10/07/02
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
BIOS ID: 10/07/2002-8363-686B-6A6LMM4AC
OEM Sign-On: W6330VMS V3.6 100702 11:00:51
Chipset: VIA 82C305 rev 3
Superio: VIA 686 rev 64 found at port 7h
CPU: AMD Duron 1000 Mhz MAX: 1200 Mhz
BIOS ROM In Socket: Yes
BIOS ROM Size: 256K

BIOS-info, c't:
Award ID-String : 10/07/2002-8363-686B-6A6LMM4AC-00
PCI-BIOS found : Version 02.10, 32-Bit-PCI-BIOS Revision:0

The info @ MSI tells me for the latest bios version (3.5) that my BIOS has already:
(1) Supports AMD XP 2200+ (K7T Turbo2 only).
(2) Revamps the incorrect display issue with AMD XP 1700+ (For K7T Turbo, K7T Turbo Limited & K7T Turbo2 ONLY).
(3) Updates OnBoard Promise BIOS to support 160 GB HDD.

But according to the BIOS Wizard, the Enhanced Hard Disk Drive Test FAILED, so I'm a little confused now. All I want to know is IF I can use a 160gb harddisk with this BIOS, and if not, what update I need.
Can anyone help?

Thanks alot!

It should. BIOS version 3.4 mentions "Support Maxtor 160GB HDD", and this goes for any HDD over 120GB.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.

I didn't mention what type of maxtor 160 gb harddisk I want to buy: its not the type mentioned at v3.4 update but 6Y160P0 (differences such as 7200 rpm and 8 mb cache) but don't know if that matters, because it specifically mentions a certain (older) type of disk...

Further more, I'm still worried(?) about the Enhanced Hard Disk Drive test failing, because it seems to be a tool that is commonly used on this forum, but fails for my BIOS... is that normal or...?

Just curious...
