Hi all,

i want to install new Master HDD 160GB
and of course BIOS only supports up to 32GB.

BIOS Date: Rev. B Rel. 09/15/1998
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 08/21/1998-i440BX-ITE867-2A69KC39C-00

Board is a Chaimtech 6BTA2

Any friendly help available?
Thank you.

Regards
Hendrik

The most you'll get out of that board is 120GB, even with patching, so you'll definitely need driver overlay software to get the full capacity recognized.

Thank you for your answer.
So I think, it's better to use a smaller HD,
because of that f**** overlay ****!

What O/S are you planning to use?

Windows 2000 and Windows XP seem to ignore the drive size reported by the BIOS and utilise the full disk size (or the disk size allowable by their own limitations.

However, whether you want to go down this road is up to you. I personally do not like using an O/S that lets me use more of the disk size than the BIOS will recognise.

I'll take a look at patching for the 120GB drive..

What size is your current BIOS - 128KB or 256KB? The last 6BTA2 Version 2 BIOS supports HDD to 137GB (128GiB)
6BTA2 Version 2 (256KB):
BIOS ID string: 12/17/1999-i440BX-ITE867-2A69KC39C-00
BIOS OEM string: 12/17/1999
BIOS already supports HDDs over 32GB & 64GB - Nothing to do!
but the earlier Version 1 needs patching and your version is not listed.

Peel the sticker off, and read us what's printed on the chip itself.
