Hello, i get a problem with my hardrive where it sometimes is not displayed when i boot up and it is also alot slower running things in this 30GB hardrive than it is with the other hardrive i have and im hoping that updating my bios can rectify this. if it is not a bios issue than can somone suggest an alternative solution for my problem. thanks in advance

i found a bios for my motherboard but there are 4 different models: K7T266 Pro2 (which i think is my model), K7T266 Pro2-R,
K7T266 Pro2-U and K7T266 Pro2-RU. The site is http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/b ... hives&ID=4 in the Socket A section there is the K7T266 Pro(MS-6380), K7T266 Pro2-RU(MS-6380 Ver2.0) and K7T266 Pro2-A(MS-6380E Ver1.0). I think i should d/l from the K7T266 Pro2-RU(MS-6380 Ver2.0) but im uncertain. So i was wondering if someone can confirm which bios i should get.

The id under the AMI: A6380MS v3.2 110201
The number in the bottom left corner of my bootup screen: 62-1102-009999-00101111-040201-VIA_K7-1AARK200-

thanks for your help and kudos on the site, it is very informative and resourceful.

Have you run a manufacturer's diagnostic on the drive to look for SMART erros and bad sectors?
Flash your BIOS at your own risk.

The site at http://www.msi-computer.deis helpful -
MS6380 V1.0 - K7T266 Pro or -R doesn't list BIOS V3.2
MS6380E - K7T266 Pro2-A special edition with chipset fan and yellow sockets which I assume you do not have
MS6380 V2.0 - K7T266 Pro2 or Pro2-R does look like the one as it has a BIOS V3.2. You may want to wait for Denniss, though - he knows a lot about MicroStar boards.

The 3.2 Bios MSI offers for the K7T266PRO-RU matches your ID

If your HDD is a WD and it's the only drive on the UDMA cable remove all Master/Slave jumpers or set it to cable select
If you have a 80wire UDMA cable make sure the blue connector is connected to the board and the black one (opposite cable end) is connected to the master drive

In fact I tried to flash my motherboard VIA_K7-1AARK200 BIOS, in this way I download MSI live update 3.0 (freeware or on line version).
At each time i launch it (and so maybe wants to know which version of BIOS is on my computer), at each time my computer stop immediatly and reboot.
This kind of problem happened sometime when my computer try to use CD-ROM.
So This lead me to the conclusion that I have a BIOS problem, but what can I do if I can't update it?
Have you any idea ?

Thanks
