Hello,

I have the folowing BIOS on my CHAINTECHmotherboard:
BIOS Type: Award
BIOS Date: 05/13/99
BIOS ID String: 05/13/1999-I440BX-W977TF-2A69KC39C
OEM Signon: 05/13/1999
Chipset: INTEL 440BX/ZX REV 3
Super I/O: WINBOND 977TF REV 0 FOUND AT PORT 3F0H
Motherboard vendor is Chaintech.

My HDD QUANTUM FIREBALL 40GB ATFireball lct 20 isn't recognized.
Can you help me to solve this problem, if it is posible?
Where to find new BIOS and which tool I must use for upgrade?
How to do upgrade BIOS?

Thank you very much!

This Bios-Id is used on a variety of Chaintech boards. Please open your case and have a look at your board - either the model number is printed onto the board or there's a small sticker with CT-6BTM (or similar) usually next to the Bios Flashrom chip.

Azreal

I think you are getting Slot and Socket confused.

Slot 1 is a slot looking similar to PCI or AGP slots, but designed for CPUs rather than expansion cards. The Slot 1 is often running across the board rather than back to front like PCI, AGP and ISA expansion slots. Many Pentium II processors and some Pentium III CPUs were designed to fit a Slot 1.

The 370 which you mentioned, if I remember correctly, is the socket which Pentium III CPUs used, and is a Socket 370. They are the square white sockets with lots of holes for pins for Socket 370 CPUs to fit into to.

Some boards will have both Slot 1 and Socket 370 available.

Out of curiousity, anyone know or remember how many pins a Slot 1 CPU had?

I fear I have to be the bearer of sad news. According to a few postings in the MVP forums at the microsft newsgroup, it appears he died end of january 2008. I knew he was very ill but i never found out he passed away. Only two weeks ago someone asked me and then pointed out this sad sad news...

I have solved my problem by limiting capacity on 30GB using jumpers, for now. I still lose about 7GB of HD space, which is plenty, so I am still considering bios flash. I like this comp, I am emotionally attached for it (I am laughing to a problems that guys with SUPER, GIGA, MEGA, ULTRA configurations which cost more than my car, have, while my poor fellow is quietly doing a job that he is made for), so I`ll be extra careful! I have to do this because I would like to by 120GB HD. That would be like going from PRIUS to MERCEDES for him!

I forgot to mention that I had BARTON 3000 before this guy, so I am not one of those conservatives. I am just thrilled when I see how this grandpa is ticking!
