AZCHIPS sent me to the forum, as it is better then using e-mail (sorry AZ for starting w/ e-mail). I hope someone on this forum can help. I have never used a forum for a request, just done my own research, etc. to fix many styles of computers.

This computer is kinda old & not the fastest, but it does what is needed in most respects. I just desire to update the bios to recognize "large" hard drives, like a Maxtor 40GB, w/o losing any current functionality and increasing capabilities.

The Motherbord is marked as a "GAINWARD 5S3A Rev.1.0" (2 AT slots, 3 PCI slots, 3 DRAM slots)
- Runs on an AMD-K6-2/266 CPU.
- Has onboard video - SIS 530
- Has 2nd SIS 5595 Chip (PJ00907, 9909CF)
- Has onboard sound - ESS solo-1 chip (ES19385 H905)
- P/N lable on 1st AT slot = "943016806"

On bootup - diplay shows following:
AWARD MODULAR BIOS V4.51PG 1984-1999
Then says: Award Plug&Play Bios Extension V1.0A 1999
(At bottom left on screen)
Bios ID: 04/12/1999-SIS-530-2A5IMSCC-00
(where "2A5IM" = SIS 530 Chipset)
(where following "SC" = manufacturer - Suk Jung [Auhua Elec. Co. Ltd.])

Award Bios features are Green, PNP Features and Flash Eprom
Also - if you need, I can send "Bios Wizard" or "BootDet" logs to you.

I thought it may be possible to use one of the following Bios updates I saw on your forum with JDShaffer (Dec. 28, 2004). He said this Bios got him to 64 Gig on his M5SAA board (Biostar).

The M5SAA board is practically identical to my "GAINWARD 5S3A Rev.1.0", and is only missing a 2nd AT slot.
- BioStar Motherbord M5SAA (1 AT slots, 3 PCI slots, 3 DRAM slots)
- Has onboard video - SIS 530 chip, Sis 5595 Chip
- Has onboard sound - ESS solo-1 chip (ES19385 Kxxx) [mine is ES19385 H905]

BIOS Manufacturer: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 07/27/2000-SiS-530-2A5IMB09C-00
(where "2A5IM" = SIS 530 Chipset)
(where following "B0" = manufacturer - Biostar)
BIOS Date: 07/27/2000
BIOS ROM Size: 256K
BIOS OEM Signon: SAA0727F
Chipset: SiS530 rev 3 (mine is "rev 2")
Super I/O Chip: NSC 351 rev 2 found at port 2Eh (mine is "ITE 8661/SiS 6801 found at port 279h")

saa0727b.exe (223 Kb) Update date 2000 / 08 / 15
Description - To support ESS Solo1 sound chip which IC version is "ES1938S Kxxx"

saa0727f.exe (175 Kb) Update date 2000 / 08 / 15
Description - No Biostar Logo BIOS

1) Will Biostar's AWARD BIOS File "saa0727b.exe" not only update my bios to work with a 40GB HD,
but also run my ES1938S H905 (it says "ES1938S Kxxx")?

2) If not, will Biostar's AWARD BIOS File "saa0727f.exe" just update HD capacity, and the ESS Solo1 not work?

3) Also, does the "difference" in OEM signon between mine and Biostar's matter?

I tried to install the above files via "AWDFLASH.EXE (V 8.24) and got message "The program file's partnumber does not match with your system". What can I do to make these flash files work?

I also tried "5S3A12.BIN" which is supposed to be an upgrade for the GAINWARD 5S3A, but nothing changed at all (according to "Bios Wizard").

Will one of your Beta or Tested patched bios work? If so, which one?

David

Should be 2A5IMCSCC

"CS" = CSS Laboratories, the same code used by Gainward motherboards.
5S3A12.BIN is the latest known BIOS update for your motherboard.
More than 100,000 BIOS strings in my database just now!

As I previously stated,

I also tried "5S3A12.BIN" which is supposed to be an upgrade for the GAINWARD 5S3A, but nothing changed at all (according to "Bios Wizard").

Can a patch be made to make it see large HD's?
