I tried to install a 40 GB harddisk but it isn't recognized.
The Bios hangs at autodetection, it is not supporting
such large harddisks and the motherboardmanufacturer has no
Bios-updates to solve this problem.

BIOS Manufacturer: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 05/28/98-SiS-5598-P5SJ-B-00
BIOS OEM Signon: P5SJ-B Ver 1.4g 05/28/1998
Chipset: SiS5597 rev 2
Super I/O Chip: SMC 669 rev 2 found at port 3F0h

Maybe I'll find help here?
Thank you and greetings

Well, ajzchips, many thanks,
there are ten bios-updates, but the last four do not work with aflash77:
"File size is not match! Please be sure your file is correct".
The other six updates make some changes but they do not solve the hanging-harddiskdetection-problem.
My new data-entries:
Bios-manufacturer: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
Bios-ID: 08/25/1998-SiS-5598-P5SJ-B
Bios-Date: 08/25/1998
Bios OEM Signon: P5SJ-B Ver 1.5 08/25/1998
Chipset: SiS5597 rev 2
Super I/O Chip: SMC 669 rev 2 found at port 3F0h

Sometimes there are different revision mainboards within the same model and only certain flashes will work with certain ones. If this is the case the web site should be documenting this and you then need to be careful to match up the revision as well as the model. What I am saying is maybe the three flashes that did not work are for a different revision board.

AFAIK the later revision boards have 256KByte Flashrom instead of the original ones with 128KByte

http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/p5sj_b.html

Funny thing on this site : instead of writing 1MBit(=128KByte) Flashrom they've written 4MBit which is wrong ....

Thanks to all who tried to help.
I had to install the old bios again because of new problems
with shutdown windows 98.
I think I have to take an other harddisk with 8,4 GB,
this is the recommented maximum size.
