Hi, Im trying to get my BIOS to recognize a 60GB Maxtor drive, and want to load Windows 2000 Pro.
I think the motherboard is PcChips M599LMR but am not quite sure. I see the Gold chip labeled PC100/SiS 530.

Thanks for any help! :D

*edit* I went to the pcchips lottery site and did the advanced survey, and the motherboard that came up is M598MR.

Your BIOS should support such a large HDD. BTW, your BIOS is much more recent than the latest available. Would you mind sending me a copy of it? Thanks.

I'll send you a copy if you'd like.

But the BIOS it's not recognizing the drive... that's why I'm posting.
I even tried a maxtor utility (Maxblast3) with no luck.

The system just freezes when i go to auto detect in bios. I've tried using Auto, and User.

Please confirm - you're using a cable that is OK with another drive ?

It does sound to me like your BIOS does not recognise your 60GB drive. I have seen systems of similar vintage not recognise more than 32GB without a BIOS upgrade, and Western Digital drives that I mainly use tend to lock up during detection like your Mator drive is, until I upgrade the BIOS.

It is worth checking the cable as Nick suggests, although I do not suspect this is the problem.

If you email your BIOS image to AJZ he will probably be able to check it and confirm what drive capacity bugs are present - I'd suspect probably the 32GB and up; possibly even the 8GB.

Did you manage to solve the problem?
