Hi,

I`ve bought a new drive, a seagate 60GB Barracuda V (ST360015A)
and i want it to work in a slot 1 motherboard with the following bios string

04/26/1999-SiS-5600-8661-2a6ilc39c-00

but the bios hangs on boot. I think the motherboard is a Chaintech 6SSA2
wich is in the list on http://http://wims.rainbow-software.org

That bios string is the same as mine so i was wondering if something is wrong or should i flash my bios anyway. Because the list says it is tested with drives up to 64GB but mine isn`t working.

The BIOS at http://wims.rainbow-software.org/ is patched version of the original BIOS you have. The string is not changed.

Make sure first that your board is really 6SSA2 (some Chaintech board models have same BIOS ID strings although they need different BIOS) - should be printed somewhere on the board.

i think this is the right one. There is a sticker with that serial. But i cant get the bios flashed.

when i type AWD812 6ssa2426.BIN /py it doent work.

and when i use an other version for example AWD741 it says insufficient memory

then i use this command AWD741 6ssa2426.BIN /py/tiny
the program returns a checksum but when i answer the question if i want to save my bios, it seems that the pc is hanging.

any tips?

Edit

Now it works. I used AWD812 /py/tiny and then filled in the name of the bios.bin and finally it started to flash the Bios with no errors.

Memory error message usually indicates that you have himem.sys or similar on the bootable diskette you are using for flashing. Remove/rename config.sys and autoexec.bat
Tested patched BIOSes. Untested patched BIOSes.
