Dropping "61-0504-001169-00111111-071595-440bx" into a Google search box turns up a hit for Tiny Computers Y2K compliance, stating that that BIOS ID was used on the Microstar MS-6119 and MS-6147 motherboards in the 440BX and 440BXM series. Under Microstar it also comes up on MS-6116. Does any of those model numbers appear on your boot-up screen or printed on the motherboard ?

OK, is that Plug'nPlay CPU detection or are there DIP switches on the board to select CPU ? There are BIOSes at here, but MSI have switched to using Award. The last AMI BIOS for 6119, which supports both plug and play and switch versions, is dated 1999. If switching to Award, there are separate versions for plug and play or switch.
I persoanlly would use an up-to-date BIOS which should have support for large discs. If you have switches, there is a 2a BIOS which explicilty says it supports discs bigger than 64 Gb. If you have P'n'P we might have to look at patching it, or you could go to the IBM website and download OnTrack.

I'm pretty sure its P'n'P. What would you advise. I'm fairly new to all this and wasn't expecting so much trouble in installing this, hard drive, but thanks for your help so far.
Had a look for On Track at IBM and couldn't find it.

Personally, I'd update the BIOS. On the other hand I've done it before and I have a spare machine I can "hot swap" fix the BIOS in if it goes wrong.
The IBM version of OnTrack is at :
How to use Ontrack disc management utility. This will also fix problems with the drive wanting to use UDMA66 or UDMA 100 when the board only supports UDMA33.

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/b ... s_list.php has links to "how to flash" pages, as does the post in "Collected Wisdom". I'm not so keen on the MSI one as it suggests you extract to hard disc, which can be a problem if you don't have one working. There's also the main www.wimsbios.com site FAQ.
The 2.9 BIOS for MS-6119 with PnP does not support big discs, but I can email you a patched version which should correct the bug.

Definately interested in that patched version of 2.9 BIOS. Would that mean I just have to flash this to the BIOS and all being well my hardrive would be excepted. As I said before I am a bit of a novice at this can you explain how I would use this. I have put my E:mail on now. Ta.

Read the flash utility instructions. You can download the original
2.9 bios from :
here
and that will contain the Award flash utility and an autoexec.bat
file. The autoexec.bat contains the name of the original file but
will show you the correct syntax; you could edit it to the name
of the patched file, 6119p29x.bin.

According to the German MSI-Site http://www.msi-computer.de is MS6119 Rev 1.1 the DIP or standard version and REV 1.2 is PnP so please be careful choosing the correct Bios !!
The latest 1.1 Bios should support up to 128GB according to MSI .
I have no access to www.msi.com.tw - seems they have some problems there but if I remeber correct there should be a newer AMIbios .

Thanks, Denniss. That could explain why TC is having trouble!

I think I may have found one from that site, I thought my bios was AMI but this download is AWARD. If mine is AMI can I use AWARD. On that site some are specifically targeted at P'n'P but the one I downloaded supported HD's over 65GB and does not mention P'n'P.
