Hi there,
I have a computer with a MicroStar MS-5187 mobo to which I am trying to add an 80gb HDD. I have tried several of the bios updates on MicroStar's site (including 1.3, as suggested by this thread), all to no avail. They always lock up while autodetecting a hard drive and/or when I manually bump up the drive size to over 64gig. (The newer patches spew out a "2" before locking when autodetecting, which I find disconcerting.) BIOS ID in the top-left corner on boot is "V.5187.00".

My HDD has a jumper to report itself as a 32gig drive, which allows me to autodetect okay, and from there I can bump up the number of heads manually from 16 to 31 and use it as a 60-some-odd gig drive.

Program: Unicore BIOS Wizard Version 1.9
Program: Unicore Chip Detect v0.72 2000.03.10
BIOS Date: 10/20/98
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 10/20/1998-VP4-686A-2A5LHM49C-00
BIOS Eval: V.5187.00
Chipset: VIA 82C501 rev 2
Superio: VIA 686 rev 20 found at port 7h

Original bios image available on request. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeremy
