It's possible you have to disable UDMA5 mode on that 80GB Maxtor. They have an utility to do that. The bios thinks the chipset can handle this mode but it cannot...

well 8O

how can I do this ?

I've found utilities for downgrading ATA100 drives to ATA33, but nothing about UDMA5, and nothing for ATA133 drives

I can also disable UDMA in the bios, then i will see thaht with the drive who must work on ths motherboard ;)

thanks 8)

Apple_rom's patcher bp which I used on this is supposed to fix the UDMA problem, so it will be interesting to see if that is the issue.

@French: The 3-times memory test is not a bug, it's a feature writing different test patterns and as you cleared the CMOS I guess that is the default. You found the way to get around it, anyway.

The same utility which changes from UDMA100 to UDMA33 should set the maximum transfer rate for the UDMA133 drive as well; I believe the command set is the same in ATA5 or ATA6.
