Hello,

I have the following motherboard MP071B in an old computer.

With Bios:
Award Modular Bios v4.51PG, An energy Star Ally
Mp071 Intel 430 VX / Prime 3B ISA / PCI (DMI)
01/30/97-i430VX-2A59GW0AC-00

Right now only gets me up to 8 GB HDD. I would like to update the bios as I want to put a 20 GB. The new bios is official? Thank you.
Forgive my English, I'm Spanish.

There seems to exist a slightly newer bios from 1998. I'll have to check my offline archives. Edom/Wintac is already off the net for a long time...

Read in Topics of wimsbios that can put up 64 gb hdd bios update. I with 20.4 gb put me settle.

I want to mount a retro old pc games, also you'll change the microprocessor and I'll put one P55C mmx 200mhz dual voltage. And voodoo graphics card 1.

Then I will comment some things if someone can help me, it is configured as almost all level jumper, but I have some doubts about parameters that do not differentiate well.

This is what I'm not clear:

DUAL VOLTAGE CPU
JP11 is used to control the VR1 Voltage output for the CPU CORE.
JP14 is used to control teh VR2 Voltage output for the CPU I/O.

JP11

VR1
1-2
2.5 VOLTS

3-4
2.7 VOLTS

5-6
2.9 VOLTS

JP14
VR2

1-2
3.41 VOLTS

2-3
3.52 VOLTS

*Microprocessor operates at 2.8 and 3.3 v, dual voltage. In select jp 14, 1-2. Jp11 select 3-4 and 5-6, or just 3-4?

FLASH ROM VOLTAGE SELECTOR
RED jumper Cap
JP3

1-2
12 VOLTS FLASH ROM (Intel/MX brand)

2-3
5 VOLTS FLASH ROM (SST/WINBOND brand)

*what difference select a jumper or another? Yo actualmente lo tengo a 12voltios.

AT-BUS CLOCK SELECTOR
YELLOW jumper Cap
JP4

AT bus clock

OPEN
PCI CLOCK/3

CLOSE
PCI CLOCK/4

*I have closed Actualente JP4, what difference select a jumper or another?

CACHE SIZE SELECTOR
===================
Cache size selector is used to configure the external cache of the
mainboard. External cache can be configured by using 32K * 32 or 64K * 32
SRAM synchronous cache or cache module.

A. Onboard Synchronous Cache
JP7 JP15 SRAM (U22,U26) TAG RAM (U20)
1-2 1-2 32K*32 8K*8 256K Cache onboard
2-3 1-2 64K*32 16K*8 512K Cache onboard

B. Onboard 256K cache upgrade to 512K
JP7 JP15 SRAM (U22,U26) TAG RAM (U20)
2-3 2-3 32K*32 8K*8 Upgrade to 512K
PLUS WTN CD013
synchronous cache
module

*I have Actualente JP7 1-2. JP15 1-2. What determines put more cache?

thanks

My BIOS chip, I now understand what voltage the motherboard. It is by the brand.

Jp11 select 3-4, if it is not stable/crashing, choose only 5-6. A Pentium MMX is supposed to run at 2.8 but can allow lower or higher speeds.

Thanks, I guess CACHE SIZE SELECTOR be because my motherboard is the model 256 ky why JP7 is set to make it 1-2. JP15, 1-2. But if that's not understand why you have to set a jumper. If your motherboard does not have slots for memory expansion.

Let's see if I can find this out.
For the record for the future for other users.

AT bus clock

OPEN
PCI CLOCK / 3

CLOSE
PCI CLOCK / 4

If your PCI clock runs at 25MHz (which is the case with some exotic CPUs), you can set AT clock on 1/3 of PCI clock, so 8.3MHz. If however you use a standard CPU that will give you a 33MHz PCI clock, you want to AT clock for 1/4 of PCI clock so 8.25 MHz. Most AT ( = ISA! ) cards do not run properly on >8.3MHz.

If you set AT = 1/3 of 33 it will run at 11MHz, something almost all ISA cards will NOT handle.

Ok, did not know that. hehe
Then I leave it in clock / 4. Slowly I'm learning little things, there are so many variants!

thanks

Notes on Intel A80503200

Minimum bus frequency is 33 MHz

Where indicated "Minimum bus frequency is 33 MHz" is the frequency used to divide the ISA bus right?

In pci bus pci 2.1 in this case, serious or 66mhz 33Mhz. The slot adjusts automatically for bios? Pci different plates can work at different speeds on same motherboard?

Thanks

The entire PCI bus will run at the speed of the slowest card. I am not sure how many PCI buses this board has, also not what slots are connected to which PCI bus.

As for the PCI Clock, it is 33MHz, the PCI bus can run at 33MHz or 66MHz.

Thanks for helping, I got pretty clear.

When you can see if you have the bios, I can not find it online. thanks

This version I think would go well.

PC Chips i430VX boards with UMC I/O (A101 v1.4, M520, M525, M530, M535, M538, M549) - Small block flash 10/15/97-i430VX-02271997C-00 Release 10/16/1997 S

http://wims.rainbow-software.org/index. ... &count=100

I can use this bios? Thanks

Uploader Notes
These Boards share the same BIOS
M520,M525,M530,M535,M538,M549,A101V1.4

The latest Bios should support HDDs over 8GB and up to 32 GB.

The latest Bios may prevent you from using 75MHz.

The VX-Chipset cannot handle usual 64 MByte SDRam (apart from very expensive special modules). This is not a Bios Problem, this is a chipset limit.

You can't use a Bios from a board with the same chipset - thats a 1:1000 chance to succeed.

I tried to update the bios with AWDFLASH 8,991.

Create win98se boot disk. Bios on diskette copy the link you passed me (http://dfiles.eu/files/wur1r7dly) and AWDFLASH 8.991.exe.

Restart pc, and boot from floppy.

AWDFLASH 8,991 gives me error: The program file is part number does not match with your system.

I must use another flashbios?
