BIOS update, EIDE card, or overlay software? (FAQ Hard disk recognition)

My dvd rom drive now makes heavy vibration when i am playing a dvd and when i burn dvds my computer brings up an error message saying that the burn copy failed and it never did this before. Could this mean that the drive is beginning to die? please help.

Possibly a mechanical failure.

ok so is it advised to get a new drive or can it be fixed
