Today I did a defragmentation on my hard drive. When I reboot the computer I get a BIOS message saying (Pri Master Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T. Capable and Status BAD, Backup and Replace), it tells me to press F1 to resume. When I press F1, my OS windows tries to come up, but instead it will shut off the computer :( . Any advice would be appreciated.

My Computer: ASUS T2-P
Motherboard: P4P8T
Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz
Memory: 2x512MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz
Hard Disk: WDC WD2000JB-00EVA0
OS: Windows XP (thinking of switching to linux)

Were you getting this warning previously...or did it just happen all of a sudden?

The HD was bad, but I was able to recover all my important stuff. I removed the hard drive and hooked up an old 40GB HD I had laying around. I installed windows XP on it and everything was good. For some reason the 200GB HD was shutting off my computer. I also went to the western digital website to see if my HD was still under warranty which it was. Here is a link to see if your western digital HD is under warranty:

I spoke with them a few minutes ago and explained my problem, and the representative told me he will send me a new HD today.
