I have motherboard DFI G586IPC Rev. D with bios string 07/31/98 - i430HX - 2A59FD4GC - 00, processor Intel Pentium MMX 180 MHz, RAM 128 MB; I just bought Seagate Barracuda 40 GB 7200 RPM (ST340014A) and could not detected at POST when I installed it; I contact DFI and said this old motherboard only support max 8 GB, they also said won't release any updates BIOS that support high density drive for the motherboard which already 5 years old in age; I browsed Seagate website and I downloaded 'DiscWizard Starter Edition', I followed all the instructions; from the program ST340014A detected but still not detected from BIOS 'detect IDE drives' and POST, if I type manually 'cyls 4865 head 255 sector 63' it hangs during POST also install DDO not help.

Hi Davy.
As far as I can see, they lied. The latest BIOS at the DFI site supports HDD up to 32GiB (33.6 GB) and so, with the bugs removed, up to 64GiB (67GB) or 128GiB (134GB) , according to our tools.

I'll leave a version of the BIOS patched for HDD up to 64 GiB at the "untested" link in my signature later on.
Tested patched BIOSes. Untested patched BIOSes.

Hello Nick, I already flash the BIOS with the patch and it work! The drive well detected when POST and I already format the drive and support full capacity; thousand of thanks to you and this cool forum, thank you very much.
