hi, i have a p166mmx system, and want to install 2 x 40 maxtor drives, making it a nice linux server for my home.. but i am having some problems. first of all they wont detect as a master on either primary or secondary ide.. yet every 2 - 3 reboots it will detect on the slave.. so i cannot install anything on them. anyone know of a work around or a bios upgrade for this to get it all working?

thanks.

any more info i will gladly provide it..

On the very same page you found "10/23/97-i430VX-W877-2A59GF2CC-00", can you please post the OEM ID string? It's a bit further up.

hi, sorry about the delayed reply.. as for the 'OEM ID' string, im not sure where that is... only other numbers of use i could find are

Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG

P5F76 PCI GREEN BIOS

Award Plug and Play BIOS Extension v1.0a

then the hdd detection stuff

then the number i posted in the previous post

i hope that may be of some help. i would love to get the bigger hdds in if possible!

Freetech Flexus P5F76.
You have the latest official BIOS.
I have a beta BIOS only:

More than 100,000 BIOS strings in my database just now!

The risk would be solely yours.

You can either try a patched version of the official release or of the beta...
