Ritchie:
Of course, I had read Your post. I read Your advice careffully so I made BIOS HDD_settigs and described them in my previous letter.
KachiWachi:
All info about my hdd:
MAXTOR D540X-4D 5400 RPM 4D040H2
40GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive HDA - 22A
Made in Singapore: 13JUN2002 PCBA - 13A
Cyl: 16383 Unique - 11A
Heads: 16 Code: DAH017K0
Sectors: 63
LBA 80043264 Has 4092 cyl. limit
S/N D26JPZ4E
here are all info at the hdd label.
Maybe that info wiil be usefull for getting help for problem.
And the second - I reflashed BIOSchip again with BIOSfile 5000108A.BIN, first made "clear cmos" with the jumper (at ATC-5000 mainboard "JP8").
Still no HDD detect in BIOS... B-(
Now I set the CLJ (cyl._limit_jumper) onto maxtor hdd to get start it in the comp.
Rainbow: maybe not only bad fuse was at my mainboar and something else is wrong-something responsible for right hdd detecting over 40GB..?
Sincerelly Yours,

Well, we know the drive is OK since you can get it recognized in your other PC. (BTW - I found the spec sheet now...D540X-4D was the key...thanks.)

Click here for the Maxtor DiamondMax D540X-4D Information page.

Perhaps there is a BIOS issue with that particular drive. Do you have access to another 40GB that you can try to see if it gets recognized?

KachiWachi: You are the GREAT!
I followed Your link to maxtor website, check JUMPER_SETTINGS at hdd and... that's it!
Previous I trusted manufacturer, always set jumpers as it was showed at the label onto my hdd. There were 4 pics at the label: master, slave, cable_conn and CLJ. The jumpers_settings are called style "A", but at the website there is another picture for that hdd (my hdd), called style "A1". Only one but important difference. I removed one of the jumpers, set it as "spare" jumper andboot the comp. In BIOS AUTO_detect hdd:
User- SIZE:40980 CYLS:4982 HEADS:255 PRE.:0 LANDZ:19617 SECTRS:63 MODE:LBA.
Now the problem reconnizing Maxtor 40GB hdd in my ATC-5000 is over.
Thank You very much!

Huh...lucky I posted the link...it was really just for reference...

Glad things worked out for you!!! :D

Which jumper did you move/remove that cured your problem?

Lesson for all...check the manufacturers website!!

How to attach pisc to my letter to this forum..? I could attach pisc about jumper_setting "style A" and "style A1" for my Maxtor hdd - difference will be showed.
kachiWachi: lesson number TWO: do not trust manufacturer's original labels!

The Maxtor A1 picture shows designations for the jumpers (J50 for example). Where were your jumpers originally, and where are they now?

To display a photo, save one on your website, and put its link here in your post. It will display automatically. Use the "img" and "/img" tags without the quotes...

OK...after reviewing the pictures, they are effectively the same, but you have to look closely to understand the differences.

I would bet that the CLJ jumper was the one you removed (J46).

Any horizontal jumper wouldn't matter, since basically that is a "storage" position in case you need to use the jumper at another future time (so you don't lose it).

The label on the drive could be better in the fact that it only shows what each jumper does; you need to pick the combination that suits what you want to do and combine them accordingly.
