Well it turns out its not the ram after all, I managed to get into linux fdisk which has a lot more features interms of setting cylinders sectors etc. And while playing with that I must of got it pretty close and it alowed me to install. However it still crashes after a reboot with segmentation erro...

yes I have defaulted cmos setup, at present set to auto/lba for hd0
in fact I think I have tried about every possible combination.

Yes I did try multiple smaller partitions however using maxtor's maxblast 3 software. It appears that the os do not appear to like the way is is been formatted.
